In 26 years, WNBA sees highest attendance and record viewership on multiple networks for month of May.

The WNBA is experiencing a surge in popularity and growth, with attendance and viewership numbers on the rise. In May, approximately 400,000 fans attended games, marking the highest attendance in 26 years. This surge in popularity harkens back to 1999, when the league was just starting out and drawing in large crowds.

In addition to the impressive attendance numbers, WNBA games have also been enjoying a significant increase in viewership. Across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and CBS, games are averaging 1.32 million viewers, almost tripling last season’s average. The Fever’s recent games set viewership records for their respective networks, with the opening night game on May 14 drawing in 2.12 million viewers on ESPN2.

The growth of the WNBA has been remarkable, with merchandise sales up 236% compared to the previous season. The league’s top players, including Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Cameron Brink, have been dominating jersey sales. Additionally, WNBA League Pass subscriptions have more than tripled in the first two weeks of the season, with a record high average minutes watched.
