Proposal for Major Face-Lift for SLC’s Delta Center in Sports District

A new sports and entertainment district is being proposed for Salt Lake City, which will revitalize the downtown area and provide a dynamic space for residents and visitors alike. The ownership group of the Utah Jazz and the newly acquired NHL franchise in the state envisions a grand entrance for the Delta Center as part of the proposal. During a presentation to the Salt Lake City Council, SEG executive Mike Maughan shared the vision for the district.

The plan includes a new arena entrance opening up to a plaza, with renovations to the Delta Center expected to start in April of next year. Maughan emphasized the importance of creating gathering spaces for the community and ensuring benefits for residents, even if they don’t purchase tickets to the events held in the district. SEG has committed to contributing over $3 billion of its own money to the project, which is proposed to be built on two blocks east of the Delta Center.
