Swedish MP forced to resign after singing “Foreigners out”

Swedish MP David Lång has resigned his mandate after singing “Foreigners out” at an EU election party. This was announced by the Sweden Democrats on Monday, according to news agency TT. The incident took place on Sunday evening at a party event, and an audio recording from the Swedish newspaper Expressen confirms that Lång sang the anti-immigration lyrics to the party hit “L’amour toujours”.

In recent years, there have been multiple incidents in which racist slogans have been sung to Eurodance songs. In Germany, a video went viral showing young people in a bar on Sylt island chanting “Germany for the Germans, foreigners out” to the song “La dolce vita” by Gigi D’Agostino.

The audio recording from the Sweden Democrats’ EU elections party event was obtained by Expressen reporter who interviewed a member of the party. However, during the interview, David Lång interrupted and sang “Foreigners out, foreigners out”, before saying “Oh shit” and asking if the reporter recorded it.

According to a statement from the party leader Linda Lindberg, she had asked Lång to resign after hearing about his actions. He said he had only heard about it online until now and was sorry if he had offended anyone with his words.
