GREEK YOGURT REVIEW: Ranking the Best Options at the Grocery Store

Recently, my family conducted a taste test of plain Greek yogurt from four different grocery stores. We ranked them from worst to best, and the results were surprising. The Greek nonfat yogurt from Trader Joe’s was too tangy for my liking and received a thumbs down from my daughter. However, the organic plain nonfat Greek yogurt from Wegmans was praised for its perfect subtle flavor.

As a family that consumes a lot of Greek yogurt due to its nutritional benefits, including being low in carbs, high in protein, and containing probiotics, we often rely on it as a filling breakfast or snack for my 9-year-old daughter. With the increasing popularity of Greek yogurt in recent years, it’s interesting to note that the global market for this product is worth billions according to market intelligence company Skyquestt.

When it comes to choosing the best value for our money, many brands offer Greek-style varieties at twice the price of standard plain yogurt. To determine which store-brand version offered the best taste and value for our family, I decided to purchase the most basic plain Greek yogurt available at each store and taste them without any toppings. All options were nonfat except for the 365 brand from Whole Foods which contained 3.5% milk fat.

In our taste test, Trader Joe’s Greek nonfat yogurt ranked as the worst with its tangy flavor not appealing to our taste buds. On the other hand, Wegmans’ organic plain nonfat Greek yogurt was a hit with its perfectly subtle flavor. This experiment allowed us to determine which brand offers not only great taste but also good value for money.

Overall, this taste test showed us that choosing the right type of plain Greek yogurt can make all the difference in enjoying it as a snack or breakfast option while still getting all its health benefits.
