Report: Panthers have made contact with Stephon Gilmore

Stephon Gilmore, a 33-year-old veteran cornerback, may be making a return to the Carolinas as the Panthers have reportedly reached out to him about rejoining the team. During his time with the Panthers in 2021, he played in nine games with eight starts and recorded 16 total tackles and two interceptions. After that, he signed a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts and started in all 16 games in 2022. In 2023, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he also started in all 17 games, playing 94 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.

Throughout his career, Gilmore has played for several teams including the Bills, Patriots, Colts, and Cowboys. He has played in a total of 165 games and has recorded 140 career passes defensed along with 31 interceptions. Ranked at No. 51 on PFT’s list of top 100 free agents, Gilmore’s potential return to the Panthers could bring a valuable veteran presence to their secondary. It remains to be seen if a deal will come to fruition but Gilmore’s experience and skill set could be a valuable addition to the team if it does happen.
