Joe Alt, first-round OT, signs with Chargers

The Chargers announced on Monday that they have signed first-round offensive tackle Joe Alt to a four-year deal worth $33.2 million, including a $20.9 million signing bonus. The Chargers selected Alt as the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft after he finished his career at Notre Dame as one of the top offensive linemen in the nation.

Alt earned unanimous All-America honors in 2023 as a junior and served as team captain for the Fighting Irish during his final season, helping the offense average 39.1 points per game. He was also a first-team All-American in 2022 and started 33 of 38 career games played for Notre Dame, becoming the highest-drafted Fighting Irish offensive lineman in over 50 years.

Alt is not only an accomplished football player but also comes from a football family. His father John was a first-round draft selection by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984 and was a two-time Pro Bowl selection. This heritage has likely influenced Joe’s decision to pursue a career in professional football.

Joe Alt is expected to be an asset to the Chargers’ offensive line, providing much needed protection for their star quarterback Justin Herbert. With his impressive skills and family legacy, he will undoubtedly be an exciting addition to the team and will be eager to prove himself on the field.
