Minneapolis Ranks Among the Happiest Cities in the World in Latest Ranking – NBC Chicago

Minneapolis, a Midwest city located in Minnesota, has been named one of the happiest cities in the world. This prestigious status makes it the only city in the United States to achieve such recognition. The Institute for Quality of Life creates an annual “Happy City Index” that evaluates cities based on numerous indicators striving to assess quality of life and overall sense of happiness experienced by residents.

Cities are evaluated in 24 different areas encompassing citizens, governance, environment, economy, and mobility. Minneapolis was the sole U.S. city to earn gold status with a ranking of 17 among 37 total cities. The top-ranked city globally was Aarhus, Denmark.

What sets Minneapolis apart from other cities is its excelling in two categories: citizens and economy. It’s no wonder that this Midwest metropolis has become known as one of the happiest places to live in the world. While Minneapolis was the lone U.S. city to earn gold status, several others were recognized on the silver and bronze lists including Boston, Baltimore, Washington, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Madison, Pittsburgh, Rochester and Portland. Notably Madison Wisconsin has also received recognition in other happiness evaluations and rankings
