Schillaci and Roccella Collaborating on New guidelines for Triptorelin Dysphoria

In a bid to address the complex issue of gender dysphoria in minors, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Family have initiated a joint discussion. The focus is on the use of triptorelin, a puberty blocking drug, and involves Ministers Orazio Schillaci and Eugenia Roccella.

A table of technicians and experts is being formed to develop new guidelines based on a review of scientific literature and experiences from other countries that are reevaluating their positions after widespread use of these drugs. The composition of this table will be finalized in the coming days.

The two ministries released a joint statement announcing this initiative and summarizing the work done so far on gender dysphoria and the use of blockers. The statement highlights that this initiative follows a hearing with scientific societies involved in the issue of gender dysphoria in adolescents, as well as a request made to the National Bioethics Committee to reevaluate the use of triptorelin in cases of gender dysphoria in minors. Additionally, clinical monitoring, expenditures, and prescriptions for triptorelin for cases of dysphoria among regions are being conducted by AIFA.

This collaborative effort represents a proactive approach to addressing the complex issue of gender dysphoria in minors with evidence-based guidelines and best practices. Stay tuned for updates as this table continues its work to develop new specific guidelines for this important issue.
