At the New York Auto Show, the Kia EV9 takes home the 2024 titles for World Car of the Year and World Electric Car.

In recent years, the Hyundai Group has been a dominant force in prestigious vehicle awards, particularly in the electric vehicle category. This year, Kia made a comeback and won the 2024 World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle awards. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N secured the World Performance Car title.

Judged by a panel of one hundred automotive journalists from 29 countries, vehicles competing for the main prize must have production exceeding 10,000 units annually, be available in at least two major global markets, and be priced below luxury options in their regions. The EV9 beat out competitors like BYD Seal and Volvo EX30 for the top title.

In addition to winning several awards this year, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also surpassed other vehicles like the BMW i5 and Volvo EX30 in terms of performance. Other winners included the BMW 5 Series and i5 for World Luxury Car, and the EX30 for World Urban Car.

The Toyota Prius was a surprising inclusion this year and won the 2024 World Car Design of the Year award. Finalists like the Ford Bronco and Ferrari Purosangue were also considered but ultimately did not receive recognition.
