Official: New ISIS-K threat prompts heightened security at Cricket World Cup in New York

The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup is taking place in Nassau County, New York, and security has been heightened due to a credible threat from the terror group ISIS-K. In response to this new threat, additional security measures have been put in place, including officers stationed around the cricket venue to monitor the fence line, check vehicles and patrol using horses and drones.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder stated that threats against the event have been received in the past, but recent threats have specifically targeted the game at Eisenhower Park. Despite this, Commissioner Ryder assured that the stadium would be the safest place in Nassau County.

Safety protocols include significant restrictions at Eisenhower Park, including closure during event hours, mandatory metal detector screenings for spectators and limitations on bags and drones on the premises. Officials have also collaborated with federal partners such as the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to ensure the safety of spectators and participants at the 2024 Cricket World Cup.

Parking at the venue will be limited to VIP ticket holders only, with other spectators directed to park at nearby locations such as Nassau Coliseum and utilize designated rideshare locations for drop-off and pick-up. The collaboration between local law enforcement agencies underscores their commitment to ensuring a secure environment for one of the most highly anticipated cricket matches in region.
