Athletes of the Year honored at Iowa High School Sports Awards

The Iowa High School Sports Awards presented by SCHEELS recognized Derek Weisskopf from Williamsburg and Jaidyn Sellers from Panorama as the Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year respectively. The event, which took place at Hoyt-Sherman Place in Des Moines, honored over 250 Iowa student-athletes.

Weisskopf was named one of the top football players in the state and has earned a spot at the next level. He has an impressive list of accolades, including being named an ADIDAS All-American, Class 3A All-State Captain, District MVP, and invitations to the Shrine Bowl and Des Moines Register Elite Team. In addition to football, Weisskopf excelled in basketball, earning all-conference honors and honorable mention all-state. He also was a state qualifier in track and field in the high jump, shot put, and discus, earning a silver medal. Weisskopf will be playing football for Iowa next year as a four-star recruit.
