IKEA introduces ‘The Co-Worker Game’ on Roblox: virtual job experience

IKEA, the renowned Swedish furniture brand, is set to revolutionize the work experience with the launch of “The Co-Worker Game” on Roblox on June 24. This innovative initiative not only marks IKEA’s first foray into mainstream gaming but also introduces a new virtual career concept within its digital universe.

In this game, players will be immersed in the IKEA philosophy, where non-linear career paths and cross-departmental movement are the norm. The goal is to provide a realistic simulation of the IKEA work environment, allowing players to try out different tasks, develop professionally within the game, and progress just as they would in real life.

With only five days left until June 16, 2024, IKEA will be accepting final applications for 10 paid positions within the game. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to assist customers, hone their skills, and advance through the ranks by exploring different departments and taking on additional responsibilities. Virtual interviews for successful applicants will be conducted between June 14 and 18, 2024, and each paid player will receive an hourly wage based on IKEA’s standard rates.

Aside from the paid roles, “The Co-Worker Game” also offers all players the freedom to explore the virtual IKEA world at their leisure. Users can visit popular Swedish food markets and bistros while serving up traditional meatballs or browsing various exhibition rooms while organizing space using IKEA products. This not only enhances the gaming experience but also enables players to unlock exclusive user-generated content (UGC).

Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, spoke about this initiative’s significance: “We’re thrilled to introduce paid roles on Roblox as a way to showcase our unique approach to careers and bring our career philosophy to life at IKEA.” At IKEA there are no predefined career paths; our people can switch roles
