Special solar eclipse event offered at the Kentucky Science Center

The Kentucky Science Center in Louisville is hosting a special event in honor of the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy a range of free activities and educational programs, as well as receive a limited number of eclipse glasses for safe viewing.

The center’s 50,000 square feet of exhibits will be open for exploration, with special programming stationed throughout the galleries that focus on topics such as the principles of gravity, cultural interpretations of eclipses and constellations, and safety measures for viewing the partial eclipse. Activities include creating pinhole cameras, streaming coverage from NASA, and educational workshops on UV rays and more.

Mike Norman, CEO of the Kentucky Science Center, is excited about the event and looks forward to engaging with guests about their knowledge of the eclipse. The special event is made possible in part by a NASA Kentucky Space Grant. The Kentucky Science Center is located at 727 W. Main Street and is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

During this unique occasion, visitors can take advantage of various educational opportunities that will provide them with insights into how gravity works or how different cultures perceive eclipses and constellations.

Some of the highlights include creating pinhole cameras to view the partial eclipse safely, streaming live coverage from NASA’s website, learning about UV rays during sunny days or exploring documentaries that offer an immersive experience into space exploration through Journey to Space 3-D at the center’s four-story theater.

Overall, this event promises to be an enriching experience that offers visitors an opportunity to learn something new while having fun at one of Louisville’s most popular attractions.

As Mike Norman puts it “We are thrilled to host this event and educate people about this natural phenomenon while providing them with an unforgettable experience.”
