Exciting Spring Break Activities Happening at Lawrence Hall of Science

Spring Break at The Lawrence Hall of Science: Building with the Earth and Printing with the Sun

During the week leading up to spring break, The Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California, Berkeley is offering families an opportunity to connect with nature and unleash their creativity. From March 30th to April 7th, the science center has a packed schedule filled with special events, extended hours, and activities suitable for all ages.

One of the highlights of the event is an earth architecture project led by Osage artist Brooke Smiley in collaboration with the arts agency SOZO. Titled EARTH.SPEAKS, this project aims to uplift Native voices through community creation of earth markers using sustainable sculpture building practices. Visitors can participate in this project and learn about the importance of preserving our planet’s natural resources.

Another must-see attraction is an 8-foot anatomically correct human heart sculpture created by the Flaming Lotus Girls that pulses with flames to simulate blood flow through vessels. This mesmerizing display will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and select weekdays during the event.

Other activities include an event on lighting and wildfires, daily opportunities to make sun prints from the outdoor plaza with panoramic views of San Francisco Bay, and an eclipse viewing party on April 8th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This party promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave visitors in awe of our planet’s beauty and power.
