From Dr. Raven the Science Maven to STEM Success: A Journey of Discovery and Innovation | Nebraska Today

Jocelyn Bosley, the research impact coordinator in the Office of Research and Economic Development at Nebraska University, will be having an informal conversation with Dr. Raven Baxter, also known as Dr. Raven the Science Maven with a following of over 200,000. The event will take place at the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium on April 3rd at 3:30 p.m., and it is free and open to the public.

Trained as a molecular biologist and science educator, Baxter’s mission is to make science accessible to everyone, foster curiosity, and bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and the general public. She gained popularity with her hip-hop science videos and started the Black in SciComm and Black in STEM Education movements. Currently, she leads the Science Haven, a nonprofit organization focused on making science engaging for people of all backgrounds, regardless of their scientific knowledge.

During the event, Baxter will share her journey in STEM and discuss the challenges and opportunities for creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community. She will also share creative strategies for making science engaging and relevant to a wider audience. This event is sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR with additional support from various departments across campus including School of Biological Sciences, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and Center for Science Math Computer Education.
