Unimarkt branches transitioning into franchises

The UNI Group, consisting of Unimarkt Handelsgesellschaft, UNIWholesale, and UNILogistik, faced challenges during the financial year 2023/24. Despite these difficulties, the group managed to achieve total sales of around 474 million euros, showing a promising increase from the previous year.

However, not all ventures within the group were profitable. The online shops within the group were not generating enough revenue and had to be closed. Additionally, following a ruling by the Constitutional Court regarding opening times, the 17 locations in UNIBox are facing changes in their schedules and operations.

Despite these challenges, Unimarkt is continuing its expansion plan with an expansion plan for 16 more Nah&Frisch hybrid locations in the upcoming year. Currently, there are already 23 hybrid locations within the group and Unimarkt now operates two of these locations itself. The group sees this concept as the future of its operations amidst challenges in finding employees.

The know-how gained from the failed autonomous UNIBoxes will be utilized in other ventures within the group. Unimarkt Handels GmbH remains focused on sustainable growth and strategic expansion with around 3,100 employees under its umbrella. Additionally, UNIWholesale and UNILogistik are both key components of the UNI Group’s overall success.
