Tel Aviv resident sedated and ventilated following bite from Nile fever-infected mosquito

In recent weeks, a surge of cases involving infected mosquitoes has been reported in the region. Doron, a patient currently hospitalized, was informed by his attending physician that his case was not an isolated one. The doctor mentioned that there had been about 6-7 similar cases recently, which was quite alarming. Doron’s relative, a strong and healthy retired naval fighter who rarely leaves the house, was stung near his home, suggesting that he may have been bitten by an infected mosquito in the vicinity of his residence.

In response to this growing concern, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued an announcement last week stating that infected mosquitoes were found in the territory of the regional council. The ministry immediately ordered increased monitoring in the affected areas and urged local authorities to take immediate prevention and extermination actions if necessary. Local authorities were also advised to monitor mosquito larvae and exterminate them before they could become a hazard.

It is crucial for authorities to take proactive measures to prevent further cases and protect public health. Monitoring and extermination of mosquito larvae should be prioritized in areas where infected mosquitoes have been detected. Collaboration between the Ministry of Environmental Protection, regional councils, and local authorities is essential in addressing this issue effectively and promptly. By working together, we can minimize the risk of infection from these disease-carrying insects and ensure that our communities remain safe and healthy.
